A Captain and His Ship

Written: 23/01/2013

A captain & his ship, left with the dawn
Full flask at his hip, and sail slightly torn
Beyond the horizon's edge, to another land
Over that mystical ledge, set foot on new sand

But I would rather keep, earth below my feet
Than cross waters deep, risk raging storm's greet
For what man, if any, has tamed nature's hand
Stopped the waves that bury, countless souls of man

So I'll be here, by the ocean blue
Contesting my fear, that I never saw through
To take a step of faith, go further than the shore
In this life long race, continue to explore

And if I ever cross, to the land beyond the sea
Would I find I've lost, the land which bore me?
Or is this but a lie, a worry so I'm told
To stop me so that I, should never be so bold?

Set foot from new sand, beyond that mystical ledge
Back to our home land, over the horizon's edge
With sail slightly torn, empty flask at his hip
Returning at the dawn, a captain & his ship
