A Family Breakfast

Darkened doorway frames the scene
Kitchen flooded by noise and light
Children looking alive and keen
Father escapes to work by bike
Radio singing to soften the blow
Mother smiles with sleep in her eye
Food ready and prepared for the show
Spoons gripped in hand raring to try
Bowl to mouth, such a tricky game
In the battle food is dropped
So try, try, try again, there is no shame
Later on the floor will be mopped
Mess is made but all are fed
Mother sets forth and cleans the horde
Now to play, before all back to bed
And just a quiet word to say, thank You Lord
