Companions Gained, Companions Lost

Written: 26/12/2011

Before me lies nothing but virgin sand
Behind only my footprints decorate the land
My shadow stalks and keeps my tail
A companion for this journey it does but fail

As day falls to night in slow decay
Evening star appears to guide the way
As the sun settles and dusk draws in
Lie down beside me, my soul's true kin

Teach me love, teach me hope
In solitary confines these are beyond my scope
Show me grace and compassion
Let me know them without ration

Loosening grip whilst fingers start to slip
I hear our entangled heart strings rip
A hollow in my heart I can bear it not
Fear digs deeper and my thoughts besot

If you die will I care that you're gone
Or will it be your gravestone I collapse upon
A single pearly tear escapes my eye
As I hold your graze and sing goodbye

Hold my hand this one last time
To show them that you are mine
Now there is nothing left for us to do
But wait for death to run as both through
