Dividing Lines

Written: 23/04/2023

We were never meant to be apart;
Never meant to be separate;
But here I was drawing, with my sin,
Drawing these dividing lines.

Once drawn, I could not cross
Once laid, not in my power to erase
My dividing lines deepening our distance
Widening, widening, widening.

How great the chasm between you & me?
Further than I dared believe,
It was more than my eyes could see
A ravine deeper, wider,
  from horizon to horizon.

Oh, how great your forgiving love?
Truer than I dared to know
It was vaster than my unbelief
A bridge growing, stretching,
  from precipice to precipice.

And you call, call with sweet melody
For your child to come, be free
As I step, I feel your hand
Lead me, back where I should always be!
