If I were the rain

Written: 04/07/2011

The looming clouds overhead, thickening
Ominous, growing in their advance
As the heavens rumble with the sound of thunder
Rolling as cracks of lightning split the sky

Were I the rain that joins the sky and ground
Never able to touch but always reaching out
Could I bind together the broken pieces
And heal the wounds which time has forgot

Were I the wind that blows but gets nowhere
Brushing past all things but never able to feel
Could I draw together the totality of man
Gathering their hearts that peace may reign

The storm's eye is growing, disconcerting
A sudden decent of calm all around
Stillness bearing down with a heavy hand
Silence reflecting every imperfection of my soul
