Let Us Not Forget

Written: 12/11/2011

He was a young, a courageous man,
As dawn approached you could see the fear
Stick to his skin life dew on morning grass
With calm expression he watched it pass

Strengthening light permits him to scan,
Cold, wet mist which will surely clear
Red sky has fallen only to stain the earth
Gripping his gun he wonders what his life is worth

Resounding words in his sergeants voice,
Lets him know soon he will charge, soon he will run
Into the plain where few have returned
No hope but keep in mind all he has learned

He never came home, could never rejoice,
Nor hold his wife or see a smile on the face of his son
An unknown solider who died to save
Our peace so let us not forget all that he gave
