My Dad

Written: 12/11/2011

My dad, my dad what a marvellous man
I'm really not sure if I filled all that I can
With handwritten letters of love and thanks
Even covered all of Jordan's banks
Would it be enough to ever repay
For he was there to hold come what may
To be the voice of reason in my life
To save me from self inflicted strife
To teach me the subtle ways of this world
To prepare me to handle whatever it hurled
Loving me for the son of his that I am
Not my achievements nor any other sham
Teaching how to be strong and bold
Care for others and not to be cold
Consider the motives behind what I do
Remember with the dawn mercies come new
With his life, his words, and all he has shown
Prepared me to leave, the nest which I've flown
