Stay a While

Written: 11/03/2012

Stay a while my friend lest the dust settles
And the grasses revive, grow over
The old footpath we wonder along
In the forgotten woods full of weary trees
Sunlight filters in soft from canopy heights
Around secluded clearings beside the hollowed tree
Up past crumbling walls covered in moss
Through fields of corn we run our fingers
Counting the strides to our secret pool

Stay a while my dear lest the halls become silent
And the tree stump chair become lonely
Forget the passage of time, the turning clock
The sun rises, falls revealing stars shinning bright
Let our words drift between ideas
Beside notes floating from nightingales
Huddled, entangled, warm in the sleeping air
Waiting for the new day eagerly like children
Telling stories and sharing what's hidden in our hearts

Stay a while my love lest all colours fade into one
Leaves of deep, red, yellow, auburn Autumn explosion
Winters white, clear ice and bare, brown trunks
Blue bells of Spring, violets and crimson poppies
Golden fields of Summer with hint of pink cherry blossom
All compare not in beauty or splendour to your eyes
Or your rosy cheeks, or sweet scent
Or your soothing voice which tames my wild heart
Just stay a while, just a while longer
