The Butterfly and the Birdcage

Written: 13/08/2012

I think that I may change tact today
Let free a wing while my instrument plays
This cage I designed to keep him safe
Remained ever locked, and him in one place

Flutter free little one & reside here no more
The world is waiting, set ready to explore
Catch a breeze & drift to where clouds & sky
Hang silently still, wisps and ribbons lie

Hang silently still, desolate, lorn
These thin metal bars dark & delicate in form
Dust will settle & cobwebs appear
Look back, but from your path don't veer

Now his life has left, breathe is gone
Does he continue to dance to my song?
Keep moving onward, never to stand still
The caged life is no more your will
